Media groups across Europe have optioned rights to Gil Formats’ Pregnant & Platonic, which looks at the rising trend of co-parenting.
The Israeli factual entertainment format, which was launched at Mipcom in October, centres on women and men who are looking to have a child without being in a romantic relationship.
It was inspired by the personal experience of Gil Formats CEO Assaf Gil, who had his first child last year with a co-parent.
Finestripe Productions in the UK, Endemol Shine Germany, This Is Nice Group in Sweden and Bulldog TV in Spain have now optioned the rights to the format, which was co-developed wth US prodco My Entertainment.
“Pregnant & Platonic builds on Gil Formats’ repertoire of ground-breaking, insightful and innovative television. The format brings the unique personal context of those women and men who are looking to have a child without falling in love, through the growing phenomenon of co-parenting,” said Gil.
“Securing option deals in four territories just shortly after the format’s official launch at Mipcom demonstrates strong demand for this new concept in factual entertainment storytelling.”
Gil Formats is the development and distribution arm of Israel’s Gil Productions.
